Red Hat Society

Red Hat Society

 at St. Mary Magdalene

Women 50+

Since the inception in 1998 by Sue Ellen Cooper and four friends to form a group of women ages 50 years + who share common life experiences and enthusiasm for wherever life takes them, the Red Hat Society has grown by leaps and bounds.  Red Hatters celebrate the joys of aging gracefully and playfully.

Inspired by the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph that begins "When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple with a red hat..." the Red Hat Society is a women's "disorganization" based on the concept that gowning old can be fun and frivolous.

St. Mary Magdalene has two local chapters of the Red Hat Society – one evening chapter, Rowdy ‘N’Red, and one day time chapter, Classy Chics.
